What hamster cage and supplies should i get for a black bear hamster?
This is my first hamster and I am so happy that my mom finally said yes.
I don’t know what type of bedding, food, cage, or toys would be good for it.
My budget is $50.

$50 is a good budget. On petco.com, and the petco stores, there is a S.A.M. brand cage for 19.99 that is a school bus style, so just look at it on petcos website, and then find it at your local petco. next, the hamster. Pick out the biggest, shiniest one in the cage. They are anywhere from 7.99 to 10.00 at petco.

How much does a hamster cost? How much does a gerbil cost?
Maybe do the cost from Pet Supermarket, or other popular pet stores. Please include every basic thing for good hamster or gerbil care, and please include the hamster or gerbil itself!
It depends on where you buy it, what breed, etc….but generally five to eight bucks or so for the hamster or gerbil. Anywhere from 30 bucks to 60 bucks for everything else, depending on how fancy, if you shop around, etc.

Hamster or gerbil? How do I know which is the better choice?
I want to get a small pet for my son but do not like Guinea Pigs. Does anyone know the pros and cons of hamster versus gerbil? Any help would be appreciated.
If you are debating on whether to get a Hamster, or a Gerbil as a rodent pet, I would suggest you get a Gerbil. Unlike Hamsters, who are nocturnal, and the run in that darn wheel that squeaks all night, Gerbils are active during the day. These little guys are so interesting to watch. They run around, chew on things, bury food, and other things. Also, hamster urinate constantly, but Gerbils only urinate every so often, so your Gerbil cage almost never smells. Also, if you decide to get a Gerbil, I suggest you get two, and if you want a family of Gerbils, get a male and female. It’s amazing how careful the female Gerbil will handle those pink, tiny babies. The babies will grow fur, and run around like crazy while their eyes are still closed! So, I highly recommend a Gerbil because they are a lot of fun for only around Six dollars per Gerbil.

Gerbil Mouse
The pet store said gerbil but it looks like a mouse, how do you tell?
He is about 3.5 inches with a 4 inch tail and is a grey color. My friend just came over and said it’s a mouse because it raises to it’s hind feet and stands, she says gerbils don’t do that. Anyone know if it’s a gerbil or mouse?
It has fur on it’s tail, I thought that mice had furless tails.
It looks like a photo I found of a lilac gerbil. It has fur on the tail but not so much on the ears.
Both gerbils and mice can stand on their hind legs, but a mouse does so less often. A mouse is generally smaller than an adult gerbil, has larger ears and it’s tail and ears are hairless. A gerbil’s coat is a bit longer than a mouse’s, their front legs are shorter and hind legs larger than a mouse’s, and their ears and tails are furred.

I’m new with hamsters and I’m not sure what to get it. If you do not recommend this product do you have anything to recommend?
I have a critter trail 2 cage for my 2 gerbils. They love it. they sleep (and go potty) in the loft up on top. I did however buy them a different water bottle; one that I connected to the inside and sat close to the ground. I tried a regular wire cage after my cat knocked the cage over and cracked it, but they seemed to not like it! so, i went back to the critter trail. Also, they seem to love sunflower seeds. I feed this to them along with their regular food. And, give them toilet /paper towel rolls too. they like to chew.

Can you give dwarf hamster rat and mice food?
i just got my dwarf hamster a week ago and my parents got a cage that was suppose to be for mice. it had all the things needed for mice and rats and the food as well. i’m wondering if i should continue to feed my hamster rat and mice food since i have a 5lb. bag now. Will it do any harm to my hamster? and is the mice and rat cage too small for a dwarf hamster?
Most food for small rodents is safe for consumption by all small rodents. If you do a search for rat food you find that most of the food is all purpose food for any type of small animal.

Mice: Mice thrive in communities of up to seven or even more in the same cage, they are extremely social animals that are very active and enjoy each others company.
Gerbils: Gerbils enjoy being in groups of around two or four, they do not fight much and will live together for a long time. (I have a gerbil that is four years old, his friend died in February.)
Hamsters: Syrian hamsters will not tolerate another hamster in their cage, but dwarf hamsters enjoy company.

in some of my previous questions i have mentioned that i have the habitrail ovo for my hamster, and some have said that i should get a different cage. i want to know if i really should, because my hamster is healthy and happy, and he seems to like his cage, and i am confused about what some of you think about my cage.
i have this cage and my robo’s love it. as long as there is a wheel for your hamster to run in and there are things for him to gnaw on your hamster will be fine! just make sure you let him out once a day in a ball. as long as your hamster looks healthy then you have nothing to worry about!

Only if your gerbil could talk. Just because it doesn’t talk doesn’t mean you can’t understand what it is trying to tell you. As the gerbil owner, you need to know what your gerbil is saying. In order to do that you need to become familiar with gerbil sounds and gerbil behavior. Gerbils squeak to yell at each other … watch that they don’t fight if there is squeaking going on. Chirping is the way they communicate. It’s all good when you hear chirping. Gerbils are prone to respiratory infections. A clicking sound will warn you that your gerbil is sick.
You might notice your gerbil vibrating when you hold and pet it. Yes, this is like a cat purring, your gerbil is happy when he does this. It won’t make any sound; you’ll just feel the vibrating. Have you seen and heard tapping noises? This can be a mating sound or a warning of danger and is caused when they thump their hind feet. If many gerbils are thumping, that is them trying to warn each other, if only one is thumping, the gerbil is sexually excited. If they are patting their feet frequently, you need to see what could be scaring your gerbil and fix the situation.

Where can I get a cheap gerbil cage from?
I wanted a pet hamster but now I want a gerbil. I want to find a cheap cage but with good quality. It needs to have lots of things for my gerbil to do. Can I keep a gerbil on its own and which breed of gerbil are best for being on their own bearing in mind that I will give them lots of love and attention. I would like the cage to have two levels so that it has lots to do but it needs to be 39cm high or less. Any ideas about this question?
