Pig Pet Cage
Will a guinea pig cage work for a large pet rat?
The gap between the bars on the cage is 3/4 inches. Is the gap big enough for a large pet rat to get through? The rat is the size of a young ferret. So will this cage work?
The cage is 3.5 feet by 1.5 feet and 2 feet high, with a solid plastic bottom.
It will work, but beware of the floors on the cage or any multiple levels. You’ll need to cover them if they are wire. Rat’s have delicate feet and can hurt them from walking on wire. Also their feet can get caught and you’ll have a rat with a broken leg.

Can you put a chinchilla and a guinea pig together in the same cage after they have gotten to know each other?
If you set two cages together so they get to know each other for awhile, would it be possible to put a chinchilla and a guinea pig in the same cage? Or would they fight?
I have both, and I would not suggest it.

Well I can tell you what it’s not. It’s not a cat, dog, mouse or anything you have heard of before. In fact it’s brand new and is taking the toy market by storm, the most popular toy (actually a series of toys) that will be the next furby, Wii, Elmo, cabbgae patch kid.
The thing I’m talking about is the senastional new interactive toy that kids (and parents) just love, the Go Go Hamsters by Zhu Zhu. Since it’s introduction the go go hamster has become an instant top seller. So just what is the appeal of a toy hamster?
The go go pets hamster was designed to mimic as close as possible the actual movements and sounds of a real hamster. In additon they are soft, cuddly so cute and are absolutely adorable. When you pick one up they have an instant “bonding” effect to the holder. You can pet the gogo hamster and it makes a cool chirping sound when you pet the hamster on it’s back.
Place it on the ground and touch the “explore” button and it scoots around twisting and turning and if it bumps into anything will turn and go in an another direction. That is just the begining, you can build a mega complex play habitat that includes tunnels, a hamster wheel, a hamster garage, sleeping dome and even carry around “hamster blankets.”

difficulty importing my motorcycle into the USA, specifically passing the DOT and EPA?
Hello, I’m having difficulty importing my motorcycle into the USA, specifically passing the DOT and EPA regulations, has anybody out there successfully accomplished such a feat?
What about customs ?
The answer about sending it over in parts is right. After you bring it over, you can then get it approved from DOT as long as it meets the standards. It will also depend what state you live in as well.

Water Bottle

Water Bottle?
Where can I get a stainless steel water bottle in the Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge, Ontario area. I can’t buy one online because I don’t have a credit card but I can’t think of any stores that I have seen selling them. (I don’t like the plastic ones because they put way too much chlorine in the water around here and it starts to taste bad, and I keep breaking them [the plastic water bottles])
Check at a sporting goods store or a Starbucks. Also, sometimes convenience stores sell them.

Depression Relief

Fish oil is also called the “brain food”. It plays a very positive role in brain health and depression relief. Find out the expert facts on how Omega 3 and depression relief are highly interconnected, which can help you take the best health decision for yourself.
Prescription anti-depressant medicines suffer from a lot of negative side effects. This is the reason why people suffering from mild to moderate depression try to look for natural solutions. Research has shown that there is a positive relationship between Omega 3 and depression relief.
Studies have been conducted on depression patients, which involved Omega 3 fatty acids as dietary supplementation in the form of olive oil and fish oil. It was found that there was significant improvement in depression in four months and great relief was found after 6 to 8 months. The greater amounts of EPA and DHA content in fish oil plays a key role in depression relief.

Ferret Cage Hammocks

Where can you find patterns to make ferret hammocks and beds?
We were just given a ferret, and she has a cage, but not a lot of toys and hammocks. I have seen on ebay where people sell these beds and hammocks that are homemade, and I was wondering if anyone new any websites with patterns. My grandmother is an excellect seamstress and I am sure she can figure out how to make these, but I would like to have a pattern just in case. Any ideas??
If your grandmother is as good at sewing as you make it sound, then I doubt she’ll need any patterns. I made a few bedding sets for my fuzzies a few months ago and I hadn’t sewn for close to ten years when I made them. All I did was look at the bedding I did have, used tagboard to make my own patterns, and then started sewing. They didn’t turn out perfect, but they did look ok and they were usable. For someone with a lot more experience, I’m sure it would be much easier. Anywho, I do have one link to a forum thread that lists a few different links with patterns: http://forum.ferret.com/tm.aspx?m=17515 If she really does need some patterns, then this link should help. BTW, congrats on your new fuzzy!

Gerbil Small
What small animal (guinea pig, gerbil, or hamster) is best for a 5 year old?
My son’s birthday is coming up and we wanted to get him a small animal (we’re getting a dog in the summer). He loves the hamster from the wonder pets but I heard hamsters are nasty little animals. Would a guinea pig, gerbil or hamster be best for my 5 year old? And can a guinea pig use a cage habitat that has a wheel?
I would suggest a hamster but dont let him handle it on his own, maybe you should hold the hamster and he can pet it and help clean the cage and take care of his pet and when he gets older he can start holding the hamster if he knows how. Good luck!

Cage Hammock

My lovebird appears to be masturbating on a fluffy hammock in her cage. Should I discourage this?
I did have two lovebirds, unfortunately the male died a few months ago. They are about 10 years old and therefore I was unsure whether to get another for her. I decided not to. However she has also in the last two weeks laid two eggs which was a surprise to me as it has been a while she has been on her own. I was wondering if I should remove the hammock as this seems to be encouraging her to nest, and the above issue too! Can anyone help me?
Give up—there is no way that you are going to stop this. By the way, I raise Lovies and they will do this even if they do have a mate.

Rat Traps
Many different types of rat traps are available on the market today from live catch traps to traditional break-back traps.
The live catch traps on a whole tend to be cage traps. The rat is tempted into the cage with a bait (many types of bait will work from chocolate to cereals). The bait is placed onto the platform or hook (depending on the design), as the rat is feeding it will trigger the trap and the cage door will close trapping the rat inside.
Knowing your pests
The common rat – rattus norvegicus has been around since the early 18th century, these rats can be found in both urban and rural areas, they can be found both indoors and outdoors and often associated with sewer systems.

Do you sometimes hear a “click†sound when your pet running towards you or walking on your floor? If so, then your pet is in serious need of a nail trimming. Many pet owners don’t realize the importance of regular nail trimming to their pets. But actually, overgrowing nails can cause a variety of problems, not only to your gorgeous floors, but also to your lovely pet.
Â
However, nail clipping can be a very tormenting experience, both for you and your pet. Because regular nail trimmers also pinch sensitive nerves throughout the nail and break the nail, leaving a rough and jagged edge. This will be harmful for your furniture, and sometimes even for your family members.

thanks. when I use it should there be a steady stream of water- or just a bunch of bursts from when i squeeze it?
Try both of these options:
1. Try squeezing the bulb before you put it down in the tank. Once the gravel tube is all the way down in the gravel, let go of the bulb and this should start the siphon.

Well, they made to all-conference! What healthy treat can I make to congradulate them? I wanted to make a cake, but they’re not eating that right now. Is carrot cake healthy? Any ideas? Please?!
No, it’s just for those two (they are the only ones i know) and I guess it doesn’t really have to be a baked good…
Carrot cake is deceiving because it “sounds” healthy. Actually its loaded with fat and sugar! An alternative would be a nice batch of oatmeal cookies made with brown or turbinado sugar and applesauce. For a special treat, add raisens and then dip each cookie in melted chocolate.

Rat Mouse
Can my dog die from eating a year old rat/mouse?
i was just wondering if it is possible for my dog (a pekingese) to die or become ill from eating a year old mouse or rat. i had pulled out the dresser and there was a large mouse in the mouse trap and while i was getting something to put it in the dog grabbed it and ate it under the bed. she has always been a strange dog. but theres nothing left except the trap. so i know she has ingested it.
Since this was a trapped mouse – and not a poisoned one – she should be fine. Basically she just ate dried skin and bones. After a year all liquids and bacteria should have dried out and left just a shell. Watch her to see is her behavior changes, especially if she becomes lethargic, then you can call the vet – but usually dogs will throw-up anything if it bothers their stomach, that should be the only thing that would happen with the mouse. After all, allot of dogs and cats do eat small animals and it doesn’t bother most of them.
