Pets Anxiety

What causes separation anxiety in pets?
I used to have a Golden Ret. that would freak out wheneverI left her, but I heard that was common for her breed. Now I have a kitten that follows me around the house and crys when I leave. If I set somewhere he has to be in my lap, and if I get up he follows me and then plops down again wherever I go. Even when I go to the bathroom he has to be in my lap.
Do my pets think I am their mommies?

Sugar Glider Ferret
Should I get a sugar glider, ferret, or hedgehog?
I cant decide.
all these animals have different requirements.
Ferrets-
These little guys are social and they love the company of people. They are cute, adorable and provide tons of fun and entertainment for their owners. they are intellegent, mischievous and when their tired out most love to snuggle under the blankets with you while you watch tv. they can explore the house and most are easy to litter train.
here are some CON’S…..
-Ferrets do have a body odour, although its mild. Bathing can make the odour worse.
-you’ll have to train and socialize your ferret.
-Ferrets need daily playtime outside of thier cage.
-A sick ferret can cost you tons in vet care.
-it can be hard to find an experienced vet in your area.
-they can be illegal in some countries/states.
-They need vaccines.
-You need to have your female spayed (she can die from not mating).
- you will need a muti-level cage for them (it don’t have to be the largest cage you can find)
- most owners suggest having two or more.
Sugar Glider-
Sugar gliders are cute little exotic pets. they LOVE being with their people and can become very attached to them. they can recognize their owner by scent or by voice. they love to sleep in your pocket(very cute!). they can live for 10-15 years.
here are some CONS….
-They need to spend alot of time with their owner (they can become depressed, unsocial, self mutilate or die)
-There is no staple diet for a sugar glider. you have to prepare a fresh meal for them everyday (usually of mealworms, fruits, veggies, some added supplment they occasionally eat pinkies)
- they are nocturnal animals, and are active late at night (which is the best time to bond with them)
-they cannot be “potty-trained”, they don’t care where they go.
-They have very sharp claws that leave little scratches on your bare skin.
-sugar gliders can make alot of different noises in the night.
-it can take a while to bond. while your bonding with your suggie you can expect to be bitten and crabbed at.
-it can be hard to find a sugar gilder experienced vet.
-their general up keep can be expensive.
-they need alot of mental simulation.
Hedgehogs-
Hedgehogs can be a real joy to own. They are funny and entertaining. they arn’t very high matience and can be inexpensive to own. they also have little or no smell.
Here are some CONS…
-You’ll probably get poked, even very friendly hedgies can have a grumpy day.
-they are tempature senstive
- babies don’t have very good control of their bladder. alough some hedgehogs can be litter trained.
-hedgehogs aren’t social creatures. if you want two , you’ll have to have two seperate cages.

What do you think of a vest with a leash for a pet guinea pig?
Today I just bought a vest with a leash for my pet guinea pig. I think when it’s not so hot, I could use it on her for her to get exercise around my bedroom, without being able to chew on things, or get hurt. Do you think these are ok for the pets? Any tips too is fine.
If she doesn’t mind it that is fine, but lots of GPs hate those things and won’t move when you put it on.

Bed Cat Dog

Humans aren’t the only ones who have to deal with Arthritis. Dogs and cats are both susceptible to it as they age. Arthritis is sometimes caused by infection of the joint, but most likely it’s just due to wear and tear throughout the years. Unfortunately, pets can’t explain their symptoms, which can make it hard to diagnose in the beginning. You may notice some changes in your pet’s behavior but be unsure of the cause. Always seek the advice of your Veterinarian in case these symptoms are being caused by a different disease or infection that requires immediate treatment.
So here are some signs to watch for and how to manage your cat’s or dog’s Arthritis pain.

Pig Small

What is the smallest pig I could get, that would stay small, and at a low price?
I really want to get a pig that stays small? There is that miniature pig but I dont know how much they are. Also there is that Pennywell Miniature Pig that were bred in England. Are they being sold, for a lot? Or a little? Are they in the U.S. Because I heard that the pennywell type was the smallest? Help me out!! PLEASE!!!!!!
The pot bellied pig can get up to 200lb. Pot bellied pigs can be very cheap if you adot from a shelter. That newer miniature gets to about 100lb. No pig is small. End of story. In the 90s they became very popular and many people got cute little baby pigs, but soon dumped them at shelters because they are so huge. They also need strict training, because they are very smart and will become agressive, destructive and uncontrollable unless you train them. They are NOT an easy pet. Unless you have experience with farm animals or at least training large breed dogs, I would not suggest you get one. Keep in mind that owning a pig costs a LOT. You need to build the proper fencing and protection for it outside, keep it fed on a nutritional diet, and take it to the vet annually.

A pet cage is a must for your rabbit. It is the rabbit’s own personal space where it can get some freedom while maintaining the ability to socialize. There are a few factors which you need to consider before deciding whether to buy or build your own pet cage.
What is the budget that you have for a cage? Is it cheaper to buy the materials and assemble it yourself, or to purchase a ready made one?
If you do decide to make your own rabbit cage you would need to purchase at least two sizes of steel wire mesh and a pair of heavy-duty wire cutters to complete the task, as well as the assorted hardware needed for assembly. It may end up being more expensive than buying a ready-made cage, as you have to factor in the cost of the tools required to make the rabbit cage and the large investment in time.

My gerbil babies are 8 days old now, and I have not cleaned the cage since they were born. Can I clean the cage out now?
Actually, you people who are saying don’t touch the babies are all wrong. You can take the babies out at 5-7 days to get them used to the smeel and feel of human hands. Also, my babies do now have fur coming…

How many rats will this cage hold (+chewing through hammock)?
Cage: http://i37.tinypic.com/3538908.jpg
Dimensions are 1′x2′x3′
Also, I no longer have that hammock in there because my ratties love to chew through the straps and send it tumbling down Is there anything I can do do prevent them from doing this, or any material I can use that they won’t chew through?
I don’t know much about rats so I would say that, that could probably hold up to 3-4 rats…but I understand that more space is always better, so I would say it could *comfortably* house 2 rats (they are social so that is the lowest number I’ll give you)…

Bird toys like ladders are available in abundance in shops. Toys that can decorate the bird cages as well as amuse the birds can easily be made at home also. People love to own birds. To keep these pet birds safe, they need cages. And to keep the birds happy within the confinement of cages, they have to be given toys to play with. Always remember that when you are putting birds within cages, you are cutting them off from their natural habitat, and heavily curtailing their space for movement. The downsides of this incarceration can be undone by keeping a bird inside good bird cages and providing it with enough bird toys.
When out in the wild, birds use their beaks and claws a lot while foraging for food. In addition to that they may nip at anything that catches their fancy or may chew twigs. They are deprived of all these natural exercises when they live within bird cages because even their food is served to them as if they are eating at a restaurant. To make up for this paucity of beak and claw exercises, they have to be given Bird toys at which they can nip and scratch.
Bird toys will be available in abundance with pet shops that sell bird cages. Different types of plastic or rope ladders known as dragon-wood ladders, bridge ladders, bend ladders, or rainbow ladders do a fine job inside cages as toys. Rainbow ladders are available in multiple colors. Bridge ladders and bend ladders are mostly horizontally placed. Birds can perch on these toys as well as nibble at them. All these toys come with hooks at the ends so that they can be easily hung inside the cages.

Sugar Glider Cage Sizing?
Can a sugar glider live in a cage that is 24x14x36″? I found one on martinscages and according to a very reliable site, they said gliders (at least young ones) do not need a super huge cage. It would be housing one glider. Don’t say gliders will die of lonliness b/c it just isn’t true and don’t ask what a sugar glider is.
OR
Could I put a baby in the superpet cage that is green and white and has 2 levels and a wheel. Is this safe? (pvc coating)
Um, no, they don’t. Only if they are only completely alone with nobody.
Being a Glider parent, and Zoology major, I can tell you first hand from experience gliders Can and Will die from loneliness. You do not house gliders alone, unless separation is needed temporarily for health reasons.

Guinea Pig Cage

How can I build a homemade guinea pig cage?
I was wondering how to build a guinea pig cage. I have two Guinea Pigs. They are getting really big and I need to get a bigger cage. All the cages at petsmart are really expensive. Anyone have any ideas on how to build one?
C&C cages are MUCH easier to make than some answers make it seem. www.guineapigcages.com has directions. The only “tools” you need are a box cutter, ruler, and zip ties. Like another answer said, coroplast can be bought from sign makers for very cheap. Cubes can be bought from different stores such as Target, Walmart (sometimes), Kmart, etc. in the home storage section. I have re designed my 2 C&C cages many times. It is very easy. ANd MUCH MUCH cheaper than buying a cage from a pet store that is too small.

Animal Cage Bag

Many of us dog owners grow tired of walking Fido round to the local shops, and if he could talk then he’d probably tell you he feels the same. The best place to let your dog stretch their legs is when going out for a country walk or a day at the beach. This would mean packing them in the family car and driving somewhere different.
Driving with pets in the car whether it’s for a trip to the beach or even a mundane trip to the vets it can be a traumatic time for some pets and so you should make sure that they are secured and safe for the journey. You often see in movies and TV shows people driving along with the passenger window open and their dog’s head popping out, I know my dog loves it, must like the wind in his hair!
The problem with this is that in the event of an accident then there’s a good chance that your pet is likely to get injured, much more likely than yourself due to car seats and seatbelts not being made for dogs and cats. This is also likely to be a key factor with any relation to your car insurance, after all a hyperactive dog leaping around your car is bound to distract you and could mean you end up with liability in the event of a crash.

If you’re going to own a sugar glider, then you will certainly need a cage for it. There are a few things you need to consider before picking out your first one. This article will give you a few tips on how to choose a sugar glider cage.
Height
One of the first things you need to consider when choosing a cage is its height. Sugar gliders love to jump and climb around. Therefore, you need to make sure the cage has plenty of vertical space. Vertical space is more important than the amount of horizontal space. It’s best that the cage is at least three feet tall.
Bars
You also need to consider the cage’s bars. It’s important that the bars are spaced no more than 1/2 inch to 1 inch apart. Wire mesh bars are best as they allow the glider to climb on them easily. If the cage you choose isn’t wire mesh, then at least make sure it provides horizontal bars or platforms so the glider can use them to climb.

Ok, so, my dad got this really small, red, novelty optical mouse he got as a price from work (1.7×2.5 inches) and it’s really cute so he gave it to my mom since his hands are big but my mom doesn’t use it so I decided to use it for the first time since I borrowed her laptop and I was just wondering what health problems can arise from prolonged use of this mouse.
Any condition that exerts pressure on the median nerve at the wrist can cause carpal tunnel syndrome. Tendon inflammation resulting from repetitive work, such as uninterrupted typing, can also cause carpal tunnel symptoms.
