Another domesticated animal these days, although relatively rare, are the ferrets. Ferrets are domestic mammals that typically have brown, black, white or mixed fur and have an average length of approximately 20 inches.
Ferrets are energetic, curios animals that are interested in their surroundings when awake. They spend up to 18 hours a day sleeping and sleep more than most domesticated animals. Ferrets are interested in holes, pipes and other small enclosed areas, and seem compelled to explore holes. They are carnivores and their natural diet consists of whole prey such as mice and rabbits. There are commercial ferret food products as alternate food.
Ferret inquisitiveness often exceeds common sense and ferrets are good at getting into holes in walls, doors, cupboards, or in or behind household appliances such as clothes dryers and dishwashers, where they can be injured or killed by drowning, electrical wiring, fans, and other household items. Although they need to get exercise and satisfy their abundant curiosity daily, they also need to be contained especially when they are alone.
There are different sizes of cages and amenities for ferrets. Ideally it should be made of metals bars. Ferrets like to chew on everything and can get poisoned by plastic coatings on metal wire cages. The cage should have small space in between so that they cannot squeeze out. Make sure that the cage has enough space and the pet can move around freely, the larger the better. It should also have a room for food that is far from a litter box. There are cages that consist of complex features such as, ramps, tubes, and soft hammocks. This helps to keep them mentally active. Do not try to put them in a glass aquarium. Aquariums do not provide sufficient ventilation. Ferrets need breathable space.

Rat Degu

What is the Dif between a Degu and a Rat or Gerbil?
What is a degu? And how is it different from say, a gerbil or a rat?
Degus are more exotic than rats and gerbils. Degus are not yet very domesticated and are much more wild. Many degus are biters and do not like to be held. Degus also have some physical differences. Degus’ tails are furry, unlike a rat’s. Degus are also a bit larger than both rats and gerbils.
Rats are the most tame of rodents. They are also the smartest. Rats have been domesticated for thousands of years and therefor make great pets. Rats almost never bite and they have the personality of a dog.
Gerbils are smaller than rats and degus. Although gerbils are domesticated, some will still turn out to be biters and won’t like being held. Their demeanor is basically right in between that of a rat and a degu. They are not as tame as rats, but not as wild as degus.

What is the current USA limit for radon gas? Is this regulated by the EPA or World Health Organization?
My home inspector told me that the Environmental Protection Agency (E.P.A.) no longer regulates the limits for radon gas, but now it is the World Health Organization (WHO.) Is he right?
It is a recommendation not a rule. WHO recommends corrective action at 2.7 pCi/l. This level is based on statistical data related to the risks and dangers caused by radon exposure.

Foot Toy
Anyone ever heard of a chicken foot Christmas toy?
I just heard of the weirdest Christmas toy ever. Apparently someone I know from Michigan used to get a real hicken foot every Christmas in his stocking. This would have been before 1950. The tendons were somehow stretched out or reattached in such a way that when you pulled on the foot the claws would retract. I’ve search the web for this thing and I don’t see it existing as a Christmas present or otherwise.
haha thats crazy! good luck with that tho =]]

Cage Kit

When buying a hamster cage is a starter kit a good idea?
The Starter Kit I might get if I get a hamster would have food, water bottle, bedding, food bowl, 2nd level shelf, and a silent hamster wheel for 26$. Is it a good idea or do you think I should get a better cage?
The bedding is CareFresh and the food is Nutriphase Hamster Food
The whole kit sounds great, even the price is very reasonable. My only question is, what kind of bedding is it? If it’s any kind of wood chip (cedar, pine, aspen), I would stay away from it, the dusts and oils (cedar) can cause Upper Repsiratory Infections (which can be fatal). If it has something along the lines of Carefresh, Kaytee Total Comfort, SoftSorbent you should be fine.

Dozens of millions of TV sets in the US receive local channels via off-air broadcasts. And this number is growing as more and more networks offer free of charge HDTV broadcasts over the air. Over the air HDTV is totally free and can be received with a simple off-air TV antenna.
The proper antenna choice is dictated by numerous factors, most of them are derived from your location. The most important step in HDTV antenna selection process is to find out what broadcasts are available in your area, which frequencies (channels) they are transmitted on, and which CEA color area you are located in with respect to the transmitting towers. Consult HDTV Antenna Labs guide and follow the selection process.
In most cases an outdoor antenna is the way to go. Indoor antenna reception quality is always inferior to the quality obtained with an outdoor antenna, especially in remote areas. However, of you live in a HD signal saturated area in the immediate proximity to the towers, then an indoor HDTV antenna may work great for you.

Gerbil Cage
How do you build a gerbil cage?
I have two gerbils. I believe my female is pregnant, and I need a bigger cage. The cage I have now costs $40 , and I definitely can’t afford to buy a bigger cage, as they can get to be very expensive. I don’t want to have my gerbils cramped, so I’d love to be able to build a gerbil cage myself. Does anyone know how to?
Well, at this point you may be stuck and need to get separate cages. If you have a pregnant female they need to be separated IMMEDIATELY from the male, they can no longer live together unless you want more gerbils then you could ever possibly handle. Within 24 hours of giving birth they will mate again and she will probably become pregnant giving you another litter just about as soon as your last is weaned. Which then will leave the problem if you don’t separate the babies out, all the females in the litter will most likely become pregnant within the first month after weaning.

Vacations are extremely difficult for those who have pets. –We are always trying to figure out where we can leave them in safe, capable hands. For those who have friends they can trust, they often leave the pet at home or with their friend. If you don’t have someone the dog or cat knows to take care of them, you may want to look into boarding your pet.
Boarding your pet can be a difficult decision because choosing the wrong place will allow for bad behavior or neuroses to develop. What to look for when you are boarding your pet is rather simple, if you read these below tips:

Cage Cages

The signs of alcoholism are not always apparent, what we perceive as a normal pattern of alcohol consumption, could be causing long term chronic health problems and in all probability may be impacting negatively in your every day life.
Alcohol dependency is a slow process of attrition, a relentless wearing down of both your mental and physical resistance; where once you had control of it, sadly it may now have control over you? What you face right now is a world dominated by a substance that once softened the blows of life, one that is consequently rendering you powerless to cope with even the trivial hurdles of normal existence. A prisoner of chemical abuse, in a cage of dependency, that is of your own making.
So how do you break free?

Bed Cat
How do I get my kittens to sleep on their new cat bed?
When I first got my new kittens,I had this cat bed for my old cat who didn’t use it.The kittens used that bed when they were 6 weeks old and now they’re 9 months old and too big for that bed. My mom got them a much bigger bed for them but they don’t even come near it where the old bed was.So how do I get them to use the new bed?
You can also try putting a little catnip on it, I know that you can rub catnip on a scratching post that you want them to use, so maybe it will work with the bed too?

Mouse Mice Cage

How old do the Babies mice have to be when you clean the mouse cage?
My Mouse had babies and they are 11 days old now. Is it safe to clean the cage?
The mother mouse is fine with me touching the babies and such. For a jumpy mouse, she’s very relaxed and not a single baby has died yet. I have picked the babies up before too. (always removing the mother first) Last night I cleaned around the nest.
They’re 11 days old, you can change out the bedding all around the nest now, but I wouldn’t disturb the nest itself.

Gerbil Small Animal
Gerbil/small animal owners – eye infection question?
One of my little unweaned guys has an eye infection. The eye is puffy and hairless, and when the area is pressed, there is some drainage, yellowish in color. I tried some triple antibiotic ointment as a quick fix, but I didn’t count on Mom going right over and licking it off. It wasn’t a big quantity, but still, although it might have forced the ointment into the eye better than I could, I don’t think Mom needs to be consuming it!
He’s too little to be isolated, and, with gerbils, I’m not sure isolating him is a good idea to begin with. Anyone have any help for me? Thanks, and my little squeaker thanks you, too.
