Everyone has pests in their home at one time or another in their lives. Some are easier to get rid of than others. Calling in a specialist pest control company generally means you are more likely to find a long-term solution than just spraying a bit of insecticide yourself.

Ants are a plague in many homes. Finding the nest and pouring boiling water onto it may be very satisfying, but it won’t get rid of more than a few thousands of the millions of ants in the nest.

Wasps nests can be dealt with easily if they are in the ground. It is simple enough to watch where the wasps are going into the soil. Then you just buy a puffer bottle of powder from the hardware store, squirt it around the nest entrance and the wasps carry it in. What if the nest is up a tree, or under the roof of the house. Do you really want to be up a ladder being stung by thousands of angry wasps? Forget it and call in the professionals.

Mice often come indoors in the fall, when it gets cold outside. The first sign that you have mice may be rustlings under the furniture as the mice build their nest from scraps of paper you drop. If you wait, matters will only become worse, packets gnawed and small black mouse droppings in your kitchen. Mouse-traps may work, but are you expert enough with a mousetrap that you are not going to set it off and break your finger. Do you really want to remove a mouse with a bloody broken neck from a trap before breakfast?

Pets can be an important part of a child’s life. A child learns a lot from having an animal to care for. Just take a look at some of the lessons a child (or adult) picks up.
Responsibility – This is one of the first lessons that comes to mind, and likely the one that parents use to try to dissuade a child when he says, “Can we get a dog?” For some people, the responsibility of caring for an animal can become a huge chore that outweighs the joy of having that pet. But for those who stick it out, the pet is a good teacher and children who have a pet from an early age learn quickly about the responsibility of caring for an animal that’s dependent on them for food, water and other needs.

Some chores are fun, some aren’t – The early days of having a pet are usually not that difficult, until Fido doesn’t make it to the door or the gerbil cage has to be cleaned. That’s when the pet owner typically begins to weigh the fun of playing ball with the dog against the chore they’re facing now. Learning that some of the chores are fun (like playing with the kitten) and some aren’t (cleaning the litter box) is a fact of life.

Caring – Nurturing is not an instinct that comes naturally to all people. Pets are one way to teach that trait, or to bring it to the surface. Many programs around the world use pets in daycares, schools and nursing homes. People who have responded little to friends and families will instinctively reach for a dog or cat.

Cage Kit Free

Hamster Troubles.?

I have recently bought a Hamster and with it’s cage I got a free starter kit. This contains several items including a water bottle by the brand ‘biba’ which has an anit-leak ball bearing. This bottle when hung at the correct position leaks uncontrolably. Can you recommend a particular type of bottle or brand that will prevent leaking?

they all seem to leak. especially if not sitting just right. many will stop eventually though. try filling it at different levels to see if one works better. often full is best. i usually fill mine then hold it straight up and push on the end a few times before i put it back in. it usally drips awhile then finally stops. or try turning it upside down after filling it then pushing on it to see if it drips. i just try & stop the drips before it goes in. try angling it differently & if that doesnt work just find another to fit your cage.

Kit Free

Have a new phone and need to locate a lead for my car hands free kit?

I have changed phones recently and have a hands free kit fitted in my car. When it was installed a couple of years ago the guy from Halfords said if I changed phones i would just need to buy a small lead dependent on which phone it was. I tried to do this and now they tell me that the company that makes the leads as gone bust? My new phone is a Nokia 6300 and I just need a lead to plug into the bottom of the phone, hopefully with a lead to charge too. The hands free kit is fine as there is a microphone on the visor above my head and it turns the radio off when it rings. It seems a shame to get rid of it or go bluetooth at great expense when surely I can get a lead. Any ideas?

This sounds like a Mr Handsfree kit which Halfords did for a while but they do seem to have disappeared. You could try on e bay. If the 6300 has the pop port connector on the bottom you may get a connector for something like the 6230 or 3100 which may work

I have a guinea pig and rabbit and im not sure what to feed them thats safe and wont make them sick.

lots of different vegetables, carrots, lettuce, cabbage, even grass from your garden! (check a localized list of things harmful to them as different parts of the world have different plants!) and go to a pet store and ask if they have any other varieties of food!

I want to know if a sugar glider is related to a rat/mouse?

I’m allergic to mice so I want to know if theres a relation and if there would be a possible reaction to them or if they are related to them but not to the point of being the same in allergic reactions, if that makes sense?

One thing that helped me when I was starting, was to put the bonding pouch in the cage. Take out the other pouches so that they have to sleep in it. Don’t use this as a long term method, though, because normally, there should be at least one pouch per glider in the cage +1. If he’s your only one, then you should be fine for a little while.

Pet Bed

Pet bed ?

Quality pet beds seem to be hard to find nowadays!!! My dog chewed up his last one… I’m thinking about maybe to just leave him without one as punishment… or maybe not?
Well anyway, whats a cheap but durable pet bed?

I do the same thing mikentammy76 does, I take an old comforter or blanket that has seen better days and fold it. Then I put a dog cover over it (I bought that at Sam’s and you can use them in the car too so hair doesn’t get on the seats) and it makes a softer place than the tile. If the dog gets too hot then the tile is right there, if they want the bed that’s there too, and best of all you can throw the whole thing in the washer.

Cage Bag

If you are going to travel what would be best to take your rabbit in a cage or a tote bag?

If you are moving (in which case you obviously need to take him), bring him in a medium sized cage with distractions (wooden toys, etc.) mine loves the ones where they have to get through a little wooden ball of sticks to get to the nut in the middle…He, like most other rabbits, probably wont like to travel!

If you are going on vacation- dont take him unless he is really laid back and trustworthy (but rabbits generally dont like being cooped up away from home for a long time). Consider getting a petsitter to feed and play with him.

On a multi-story condo I made for my rabbit, I used adhesive squares of sheet vinyl on the plywood first floor, and also coroplast on top of that and on the other levels. It’s easy to wipe up and clean. Coroplast (corrugated plastic) works great plus it’s cheap, about $10 for a 4′ x 8′ sheet. Try a sign shop, tell them what you want to use it for. On top of the coroplast I would put several grass mats and toys for my bunny to chew on.

If you use wood, your rabbit can soil it and then you have stinky soiled wood. If you use sheet linoleum, I assure you your rabbit will chew on it posing a risk, and there’ll be nothing to protect the wood. If you use carpet it too can get soiled and need regular replacement.

First of all, Jeff Paul is advertising his, “Short Cuts to Internet Millions,” program for a one-time payment of only $39.95 USD. Do you really think that a $40 investment is going to make you a millionaire?

I didn’t call the number and I haven’t ordered the program but I am pretty sure his program is just an effective way to generate leads for his telemarketers to call and up-sale you for a $5,000 to $10,000 investment for coaching or other related products.

I usually shop for all of my pet needs at Petsmart. start out with a bag of bedding (NOT cedar!!! as it causes respiratory problems in small animals), good quality hamster food, a food dish, a water bottle, and a wheel. Toys and chewing blocks are also highly reccomended. You will be able to find starter kits online or at any pet store as well.
